India adopted a new law granting citizenship to refugees from neighboring countries, but only if they are not Muslim. Under this law, adopted in Dec 2019, Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Jains, Parsis and Sikh refugees from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, who arrived in India on or before December 31, 2014 will not be deported or imprisoned for being in India illegally. Rather, they will be expeditiously granted Indian Citizenship. Muslim refugees (Rohingya from Myanmar) will not be eligible to seek citizenship under this law.
This Indian Law, based on right wing extreme Hindu nationalistic ideology is virtually similar to the Islamists’ hate-filled ideology of an Islamic State. Click here to read the complete paper.
